In 2006, the "Toll Brothers" contracted to build a subdivision on Spring Hill. It fell through, in part I suspect, because
of the partial collapse of the financial system leading up to 2008. I don't remember a lot about the meetings back then and the
recorded minutes from the Planning Board don't go back that far, but I do remember many of us attending Planning Board meetings and being
a thorn in the side of the Toll Brothers.
Like I said, it was in the months leading up to the partial financial collapse in 2008 but I like to think our presence at the
meetings had something to do with them giving up as well. Back then there was no email list and many of us had never met our
neighbors before, much less had any coordinated effort to stop a builder. It was a totally organic thing that happened.
Eight years after the collapse in 2008, another group called "Sunrise Estates" with "Herritage Design Group, LLC" wanted to build 70, single
family houses on Spring Hill. I attended a couple Planning Board meetings but the best summary is from the February 2017 Planning
Board minutes where Sunrise Estates was mentioned for the last time. Harry Berkowitz, a member of the board, said "what remains
of developable land in town is not great, with a lot of ledge and wetlands."
Since the project did not move forward, I believe that opposition from neighbors played a significant role in its abandonment.
